Ukrainian military personnel, doctors, and emergency service workers labor tirelessly, often enduring sleepless nights, perpetual stress, and risking their lives daily. Domestic psychologist’s analysis reveals a sobering statistic: approximately 40% of individuals are expected to grapple with post-traumatic stress disorder in the aftermath of war.  

Within Ukraine, countless civilians bear the scars of shelling, the anguish of losing loved ones, and the devastation of their homes and possessions, compounded by an unceasing stream of distressing news. These adversities significantly contribute to the development of mental disorders, including PTSD, as the toll of war on the human psyche remains undeniable.

Here are some ways in which the Arts are employed for Healing in war-torn regions: 

Art Therapy is a well-established approach used by mental health professionals to help individuals, particularly those suffering from trauma express their feelings and experiences through artistic means. In war-affected areas like Ukraine, art therapy can provide a safe and non-verbal way for survivors to process their emotions and memories. It can be an outlet for them to convey their feelings, fears, and memories. This can be especially helpful when language barriers or the intensity of emotions make it difficult to articulate their inner turmoil. 

Music Therapy: Music has a universal appeal and can serve as a powerful tool for healing. Music therapy involves creating and listening to music to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. In war zones, music therapy can help individuals cope with the trauma they've experienced and promote emotional well-being. For example, Music can evoke powerful emotions and provide a safe channel for individuals to express their feelings, including anger, sadness, and grief.
